Hands on Science Field Trips

Shenandoah Georgia Youth Science & Technology offers field trips. The following is a list of topics for each grade level. For more information, click on the Shenandoah GYST website link below. Note that each grade level follows a particular theme. The cost is $4.00 per member student and $6.00 for non-members.

Second Matter Matters - October

Students will investigate the three states of matter - solids, liquids, and gases - and will explore the properties of each. They will experiment with mixtures and identify reversible and irreversible changes. They will practice metric measurement as they measure length and mass of solids and the volume and mass of liquids. They will observe different densities of liquids in an "Ocean in a Bottle", which they will create and take home. (Georgia Performance Standards #’s S2P1a, b; S2CS7c; S2CS3 a, c; S2CS5 a, c)

Panola Mountain State Park

This State Park was created to protect a 100-acre granite monadnock (mountain) often compared to Stone Mountain and Arabia Mountain. Hikers can explore on their own or enjoy a ranger guided tour. Children especially enjoy the interpretive center with animal exhibits. Pets are not allowed on most trails. Bicycles are allowed only on the paved PATH trail. The Georgia Children's Museum

The GA Children's Museum is located in Macon, GA. The museum seeks to strengthen the fabric of education for all children throughout the Middle Georgia region offering new types of educational models that reinforce the educational achievement of all children. The museum features attractions for children such as the Little Learners Activity Area, Puppet Theatre, Journalism Exhibit, Art Studio, Georgia Piedmont Exhibit and more.

General Information about Field Trip: The field trip price cost per child is $5.00. Field Trips may be booked Tuesday through Friday between the hours of 10 am and 3 pm. Field Trips last approximately 2 hours and do include a GCM staff person on site. Students will be advised to bring a sack lunch or may purchase a boxed lunch. The class can eat in the loft of the Children's Museum or if it is a nice day outside in the grassy areas surrounding the museum. The Pottery Patio Field TripsReserve a Date with Just One Week Notice.

The Pottery Patio offers field trips specially tailored for children ages 5 and under. Field trips feature a story and then a piece of pottery that ties into the story. Standard field trips include choice of piggy banks, monster trucks, airplanes, puppies, ice cream bowls, fish and much more. Just $10 per child. Pizza and drinks can be added for just $4 per child.
